In July 2024, the European Union identified future digital innovation hubs in Ukraine that will join the European Network under the EU's Digital Europe Programme.
European Digital Innovation Hubs (ECIHs) are hubs that help small and medium-sized businesses and public organizations improve their production processes, products or services using digital technologies.
The winners of the competition were associations that are ready to implement innovations and digital transformation for Ukrainian enterprises and government agencies. Six of them will receive EU funding for the establishment and operation of the ECIC, namely:
- Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Specialization: energy efficiency.
- Public Union "Kharkiv Cluster of Information Technologies". Specialization: in the fields of energy, agro-industry, cybersecurity and testing of new technologies.
- Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman. Specialization: in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, high-performance computing, digital education, and startup support.
- Association "Lviv Cluster of Information Technologies and Business Services". Specialization: in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, VR and AR, robotics, radio electronics and digital education.
- Polissya National University. Specialization: in the field of high-level digital skills development.
- Khmelnytskyi National University / EDIH "Clothing Technology & Textile Hub". Specialization: in the fields of clothing industry and mechanical engineering.
Khmelnytskyi National University headed a consortium consisting of: KhNU, NGO "Agency for Sustainable Development "ASTAR", PU "PODILSKY FASHION CLUSTER", NGO "IT CLUSTER OF THE CITY OF KHMELNITSKY".
The selection of organizations was carried out according to the following criteria:
- alignment with the objectives of the Digital Europe programme, as well as national or regional digital goals;
- plan and ability to implement the planned activities;
- expected results and potential long-term effect;
- competitiveness and benefits for the local ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship in general.
The team from Khmelnytskyi National University was headed by the head of the research department, Professor Oksana Zakharkevych, who acts as the coordinator of the project. The main core of the team is the staff of the Department of Technology and Design of Garments. Representatives of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology, the Department of Machines and Apparatus, Electromechanical and Energy Systems, and the Department of Cybersecurity are involved in the project.
First of all, the project provides services for small and medium-sized businesses on the digitalization of production, improving digital skills, attracting funding and, of course, networking. The main competence of Khmelnytskyi National University will be the provision of educational and training services on the basis of three faculties: the Faculty of Information Technology, the Faculty of Technology and Design, and the Faculty of Engineering, Transport and Architecture. For this purpose, our university has a powerful material and technical base — modern laboratories and research centers: the Educational and Research Laboratory "Technologies and Fashions", the Center for Collective Use of Scientific Equipment "Laboratory for the Design and Manufacture of Non-Standard Equipment", the Center for Innovative 3D Technologies, the Educational and Research Center for Automation and Electric Drives SIEMENS, the SOLIDWORKS Center, etc.
Communication and dissemination of the project results will fall on the shoulders of the NGO "ASTAR", networking will be carried out by the IT cluster of Khmelnytskyi, and consulting support and experimental bases for the work will be provided by the Podilsky Fashion Cluster.
The initiative is carried out within the framework of the EU Digital Europe Program, the strategic implementer of which in Ukraine is the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the practical consultant is the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office, with the support of the GIZ Ukraine program "Digital Transformation of SMEs in the Eastern Partnership Countries", funded by the Government of Germany.
