LAUNCH OF THE WORKING GROUP ON HARMONIZATION OF TECHNOLOGY READINESS ASSESSMENT (TRA) METHODOLOGIES

The first meeting of the Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA) Methodology Harmonization Working Group, which brought together experts from different European countries, took place on September 22, 2025. The aim of the initiative is to harmonize TRA practices, establish common assessment criteria, and develop practical guidelines that will ensure comparability of results across different sectors of technological development.

The meeting identified key areas of work. The main focus was on unifying methodologies so that technology readiness assessments are conducted according to similar standards across countries and sectors. Participants stressed the importance of clear and transparent criteria that are understandable to innovators, researchers, investors and policymakers. One of the main goals is to create conditions for comparing TRA results from different projects, which in turn should accelerate technology adoption and enhance their impact through more effective planning and support.

The Working Group included representatives from Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Netherlands, Greece and Ukraine. Among the participants were PhD Eng. Simona Caraiman from the Technical University of Iasi and EDIH-DIZ (Romania), Ivan Draganov from Institute GATE, Innovation Amp (Bulgaria), Boris Golob from EDIH ADRIA / STEP RI Science and Technology Park University of Rijeka (Croatia), Elisa Cauhe from EGI Foundation, EOSC DIH (Netherlands), Oksana Zakharkevych from Khmelnytskyi National University and EDIH CLOTEX-HUB (Ukraine), Dr. Christina Cheimonidi from FORTH, smartHEALTH EDIH (Greece), and Hristian Daskalov from Cyber4AllSTAR EDIH and EDIH Trakia (Bulgaria). Their experience and interaction created a platform for knowledge exchange, comparison of approaches and identification of next steps.

Over the coming months, the group plans to explore existing technology readiness assessment methodologies across countries and sectors, analyze their strengths and weaknesses, and develop draft agreed guidelines and recommendations. This will be followed by discussion and adaptation of the developed approaches, taking into account real-world experience and feedback from stakeholders, which will allow for further finalization and implementation of a common methodology.

For Ukraine, and in particular for CLOTEX-HUB, participation in this initiative is of particular importance. This will allow improving technology assessment practices in domestic projects, increasing trust from investors and partners, integrating national standards with European ones, and promoting accelerated commercialization of innovations and the development of technology transfer.
